Wow, how strong have those southerlies been this last week? Through the night the gusts have exceeded 30knots and thankfully mid-morning to mid-afternoon it has been calming off in the gulf. Some keen anglers have taken advantage of the reprieve and snuck out from the marina or Bundegi for a quick fish. Large squid have shown up south of the marina lately and one or two is enough for a fresh feed for dinner.

The tip of the cape has produced some more substantial sized GT’s this last week and dedicated anglers with good rock-spike boots, head lamps for the fading light and gloves for the tough fight have been seen casting on dusk.

Barbless poppers and stick baits using heavy mono leader and braid on strong spin reels have been the preferred option. Some anglers have busted off and beach combers the next day have retrieved the lures that float to the surface and get washed ashore overnight. The large moon is usually a deterrent for these species, but not this time.

Brookie Michaels was up with her family recently from Mandurah and following in her older brother’s footsteps, this week’s pic is of her best fish yet! What a beauty it is too. The whopper dolphin fish was caught from her Dad’s boat off the lighthouse in around 80m of water.  The proud angler is still smiling and talking about it daily!! Well done Brookie.
