The good weather has continued, much to the delight of visitors to the region. The cyclone possibilities were concerning, but locals are hopeful that the water is cool enough not to attract further cyclones this season.

Boating enthusiasts have been rewarded with acres of tuna both along the Westside and in the gulf. Mackerel have been a little thin on the ground with only the odd one or two being reported this last week.  The water has been rather green and those chasing billfish have said it is quiet on that scene too. With the building moon over the next few weeks, we expect the fishing to improve, especially with the bluewater species.

Blue swimmer crabs have shown up in good numbers recently and it’s great to get a fresh feed over a weekend. These tasty critters are best eaten fresh, so no need to take lots. Mullet bait in the nets has worked well with mudcrabs and blue swimmers, while another good bait to use for mudcrabs is lamb neck chops from the local butcher.  Fish frames are also a good way to help put some people’s waste back in to the system. Needless to say, crab pots and sieves, nets, floats and scoops have been selling well this last week and recipes for cooking them have been on the lips of anglers around town.

The hype of the two major tournaments for the Exmouth Game Fishing Club has been well received by locals. The EGFC were pleased to provide a venue for locals to socialise with anglers and visitors and learn more about fishing. The social evening in the middle of the two weeks was great for the town and the EGFC would like to thank the Shire of Exmouth for their support. Thanks also go to all the people involved, including the participants, volunteers, sponsors and committee.

The AGM for the Exmouth Game Fishing Club is Thursday April 14th at the Clubhouse on Madaffari Drive at 6.30pm. The current committee will be standing down. Nomination forms are available from the clubhouse or via the secretary on secretary@egfc.com.au
