Ben Conroy from Karratha has decided to come to Exmouth after finishing year 12 at school. He decided to buy a new rod and reel and headed to the marina and caught yellow fin whiting, a cod and a bream. This option is what we are sure most parents would prefer their kids do after finishing school. Ben will have some good memories to look back on in years to come. Paul Ogilvie is visiting again and staying at his holiday house with a few mates.
On the first day out fishing they got in to some rankin cod, spanglies and mackerel. Luckily the weather was good too. They were using calamari WA Bait and paternoster rigs in about 50m off the Muirons. Kevin Dodunski and a few mates were enquiring in the store on Sunday about catching rock lobster. They needed a licence and the information. Thankfully you can now obtain a licence on the internet and we assisted the men in getting their licence and the information required to go out for the day. They headed out in the waters off the lighthouse just south of the sanctuary zone and brought back two massive ornate lobsters. The men were thrilled with their catch for the day and happily left other rock lobster in the area for the next person visiting.
Jae Harben is on holidays from Perth visiting his brother Blake and family. Jae considers himself as a local because he loves coming up and spending as much time as possible in Exmouth. The two brothers have been fishing at the marina and catching small bonito and military sea pike (barracuda). One of the pike measured over 1m! The boys have been enjoying the time fishing together and are looking forward to the next few weeks of summer fun.
The Christmas and end of year function for the Game Fishing Club is on this Sunday the 13th at the Yacht Club thanks to Exmouth Marina Village. We are sure it will be a fun afternoon and evening and don’t doubt that it will be a lot bigger next year as the interest for memberships grows with the clubhouse construction! If you haven’t seen what’s happening, get yourself down to the marina and see the progress of the EGFC clubhouse, as it is moving forward in leaps and bounds. The EGFC is grateful for the assistance it has received from so many different avenues, especially the funds through the GDC for the Royalties for Regions program: it’s great to see benefits for the communities in the regional areas starting to take shape.
