Works have begun on the Exmouth Game Fishing Club Clubhouse!
Yes, paperwork has been signed for the lease agreement between Exmouth Game Fishing Club and DPI. HOORAY….It’s been a long wait and after many years, the club has finally begun works.
The EGFC has over 250 members and several events throughout the year that attract many visitors to the town of Exmouth. For many years the EGFC has had plans to build its clubhouse down at the marina next to the floating pens. In fact, there is paperwork dating back over ten years in regards to this. There were several delays with government departments and changes, however, the lease documents have finally been drawn up. In more recent years the EGFC had an architect draw up the plans to help make the design blend in with the surroundings, including the Novotel Ningaloo Resort.
Everything is ready to go now and progress has already begun with the shaping of the block to suit the design of the building. The EGFC has successfully applied for funding through government agencies such as the Royalties for Regions scheme. There was a lot of hard work over the past several years raising funds, applying for grants, arranging draftsmen and all sorts. The current EGFC committee would like to thank the present and past committees for all their hard work and efforts. They would also like to thank all the volunteers, members and visitors who have contributed towards this project. However, there is still plenty of work to do and it is expected to have the building complete by 2010.
This will be a superb location for the EGFC to host the Australian International Billfish Tournament in years 2011 and 2012. It will also host the successful Gamex tournament each year and the Billfish Bonanza. The club plan to hold many social events and educational sessions at the venue to assist with fishing skills, family bonding, junior development, good fishing practises, good fishing ethics and understanding of recreational fishing for a sustainable future. If you would like to be a part of this exciting future or want to donate your time, or funding or materials for this project, please contact the club president at president@egfc.com.au or phone 0408 905 448.
