Jay Hayes from Gove in the NT came here with Aaron and Jade Dean for 10days for a mixture of fishing and work. The trio went mudcrabbing in the Bay of Rest and successfully got 8 muddies while walking the flats. They have also been spearfishing and speared an 8kg green jobfish south of the Muiron Islands. Surprisingly, they also got a 4kg robinson sea bream that was shot is 12m. These fish are usually found in depths closer to 100m, but this crew enjoyed having the fish fresh for dinner. In fact they’ve had a great week of meals with the crabs, reef fish and a coral trout and bluebone shot as well. We told them that Gove is a wonderful place and they are lucky to live there, but they think it’s great to be here in the Northwest.

1253412910_yardie 1 107 Yellowfin tuna and wahoo have been caught this last week from boats fishing around the northern bell end of the Muiron Islands. They have been averaging 13kg and taking a liking to trolled lures. Both hard bodied lures and soft surface pushers have worked well with the two species of speedsters. We suggest you get ready for a screaming run with these beauties, as they run hard!Rodney Ziere and Mark Geletic launched their polycraft from the beach at the Golf club when the wind backed off one afternoon this week. Straight out from there they came across large bait schools of garfish and yellowtails. The mackerel were almost jumping in the boat according to the guys who were almost jumping out of their skins to tell us! There were also many other predatory species feeding on the bait including cobia. The guys were using mulies in shallow water drifted back amongst the action. A few weeks back I gave you a quote from a happy visitor to Exmouth. Here is another to go with the email sent in to us with a great red emperor. “Hi guys, thanks for great service and favours, we had another brilliant trip (my 16th): Great weather, good people and of course fantastic fishing on and off shore. Many thanks to Ben for looking after us (Paul Mackay). Muddies were awesome! We will see you soon no doubt, thanks again .Regards Michael, Gillian & Paul Dondas”
