Keisha Barnes age 3 was fishing with her dad at the marina and caught a nice size mangrove jack (46cm). The picture tells all. They headed down to the marina at Exmouth at 17:00 with an early strike but no fish. In a period of 3-4hrs they had enough strikes to keep them entertained, they got snapped off 3 times and landed I jack for dinner. It is great to see kids like Keisha enjoying their fishing around town. There are still heaps of bream, small trevally and queenfish in the marina.
The west side has produced Spangled emperor Bluebone Trevally and more sharks in the shallows than most locals have seen here for a long time. The Billfish scene seems to have quietened down the last week with only a couple of fish being landed that we have heard. There were many marlin and sailfish raised last weekend but very few making it to the boats. There have been Mackerel at the back of the reef out from Tantabiddi and good schools of northern salmon along the beaches down the west coast. The tip of the cape has seen some good sized bait balls at times with all sorts of fish hanging around them. The gulf has been pretty dirty but there have still been some good bluebone and trout taken from the bommies within close proximity to the marina. There are still a lot of undersized fish amongst them though so watch the sizes carefully.
